The standards that form the foundation of this WebQuest 'Talking Trash' are obtained from the Australian Curriculum: Technologies: Design and Technology Years 3 and 4 (ACARA, 2016).

Design and Technologies: Knowledge and Understanding (ACTDEK013)

Investigate the suitability of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment for a range of purposes.

Design and Technologies: Processes and Production Skills (ACTDEP016)

Select and use materials, components, tools, equipment and techniques and use safe work practices to make designed solutions.

Student Learning Outcomes

By the end of this WebQuest students should be able to:

Design a compost system for their home, selecting appropriate materials, tools and equipment.
Describe the process of making a compost system.
State why certain materials are required in a compost.
State how a compost and the materials impact the environment.

Prerequisite Knowledge

Students:

Will already know how to do a simple reference when using information found on the internet.
Will already know how to conduct a safe internet search using specific keywords to narrow their results.
Will have had experience talking in front of other classes in the school.
